Kastellet

Kastellet in Frederikshavn is one of Europe’s best preserved fortresses. Originally it was a part of the moats that surrounded Copenhagen but today it consist of a church, a windmill and a prison where Struense himself were waiting for his execution. Kastellet has played a crucial role in Copenhagen’s war history and is owned by Forsvaret. Normally the area functions as a museum and one of the cities most beautiful oasis’s where you can walk your dog or have a picnic. There’s a yearly tradition were the citizens of Copenhagen takes a walk on the old moat one evening and drinks tea and eats biscuits afterwards.
