Gammel Torv

Gammel Torv

Gammel torv is the oldest square in Copenhagen. Since the 12th century the square functioned as a market place and was used by farmers who sold their goods to the citizens of Copenhagen. The unique bronze fountain in the middle of the square is one of the world's most well-kept pieces of art from the renaissance. The fountain was donated by the King Christian the 4th and was used as a daily water supply by the inhabitants. The fountain was restored into its original glory when Copenhagen was the host for the European culture year in1996.

Where: You’ll come across Gammel Torv when you’ve walked halfway on the pedestrian street called Strøget
