Amager Strandpark

Amager Strandpark

In 2005 Amager Strandpark was completely re-designed and it’s become Copenhagen’s new beach with a great view of the Oresund Brigde, Sweden and Prøvestenen. The beach runs along Amager Strandvej and consists of a lagoon bounded by an artificial island with yet another beach. There are three bridges connecting the island with the mainland and the island itself is nearly 2,5 km long, with a mole in the north end and a port of call in the south. In the middle of the island there are beach stations with facilities like toilets, showers, handicap facilities and kiosks. The roofs of the stations can also be used as look out points. The lagoon is 400 meters at its widest and has shallow parts for small children as well as deeper areas for swimmers and rowers. You can launch your kayak or dive from the point. Three long stone reefs called “Havheksens hale”, The Tail of the Sea Witch, have been created especially for divers. Metal bows create guide lines between the reefs and a underwater metal sculpture make up the bellybutton piercing(!). Further north you can also dive between the Sea Witch’s “breasts”, two tall circular stone reefs pierced by tubes...

If you take your car you can park at the southern end of the island, but the Metro (Lufthavnsstrækningen) has three stops along the beach: Øresund Station in the north, Amager Strand Station and Femøren Station in the south. It’s only a five minute walk to the beach from all stations.
