Beer Guide

Beer Guide Beer Guide

Even though Copenhagen is said to be one of Europe’s most expensive cities, there’s still the possibility to have a cheap beer here. The good old local restaurants and pubs still serve cheap beers, and their regular clients can be the local alcoholics as well as the intellectuals. These local pubs are called ”værtshus” or ”bodegor” in Danish. Except the old places there are plenty of other pubs and cafes that have happy hour and low prices in general. Many of the newer pubs are located centrally in the city, and don’t forget that in Denamrk most cafes have a license to sell alcoholic beverages. Here’s our guide to the cheapest pubs!

Pubs

As mentioned before a lot of pubs goes under the name ”værtshus” in Denmark. To get to these ”værtshus” you often have to travel a bit outside the city centre, but it’s easy to get around in Copenhagen. Remember that most places in Denmark don’t practice the non-smoking prohibition. McKluud in Vesterbro is a good place to get a cheap bottled beer. The interior design was probably most recently changed in the 70’s, and has a worn western kind of feel to it. Here you’ll get an Albani beer for 15 DKK and the place is reeking with smoke. Don’t get deluded by the café named Café Godthåb in Frederiksberg. Godthåb has happy hour prices on draught beers from Thursday to Saturday between 8-10 pm. Other inexpensive pubs that are worth mentioning are Det Rene Glas or Mucki bar in Nørrebro, were you get a large draught beer for 20 DKK. Another cheap pub is Bodega 54 in Vesterbro. If you’re a tourist you’ll surely get a bunch of friends for the night, but there’s no doubt that everything will be forgotten the next morning.

Have a cheap beer in the city centre

You don’t have to leave the city centre to get a cheap beer. The Moose is centrally located and the walls are filled with scribbles and doodles. The pub is mentioned in tourist guides so a lot of backpackers and students with a small budget visit the pub. At The Moose you get a large draught beer for 30 DKK and you get two beers for the price of one when it’s happy hour on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. At the second floor at the Jazz pub La Fontaine its happy hour every day except Sundays from 8-10 pm and that includes both beer and spirits. Eiffel Bar in Christianshavn were once famous for their impudent cancan dancers. The pub still has a Parisian feel to it and is suitable for the last stop before you head home. At Eiffel you can get a Bayer for 14 DKK and an organic beer costs 18 DKK. If you feel like having something stronger you can buy tequila shots for 10 DKK a pop at Café Touché, that’s located only five minutes from the central station and opened until 5 am.
