Hästpojken
|
Since their debut in 2007, Hästpojken has taken indie-Sweden by storm. With their typical Gothenburg rock-melancholy, they’ve climbed the charts and played at places such as the Emmaboda festival and Sommarkrysset. At the release of the first album, Caligula, Hästpojken consisted of Bad Cash Quartet-singer Martin Eliason and Pop-Lars from Broder Daniel. In time for their second album, Från där jag ropar, the line up had changed and been completed by Adam Bolméus, Pontus Tenggren, Oscar Wallbom and Nico Janco. But there’s still one thing we can’t figure out and that’s their name – Hästpojken (Horse boy). Hi there, Pontus Tenggren of Hästpojken, why are you called Hästpojken? Is it after Pony Boy in Coppola’s movie The Outsiders?- We used to get that question in every interview from 2007 to 2008 and the answers varied as often as the question was asked. It could be that Martin’s mother’s new boyfriend won millions on the race tracks when Martin was a kid, or that it was the male equivalent of horse chick. But the truth is very different, and it is that Martin wrote a short story called Hästpojken when he studied Literature. It could also be that it is a band name just like any other band name. Probably the real reason has been lost among all the lies about the name and we’ve accepted it.
