Jægersborggade

Even though Nørrebro has gotten a bit of a bad reputation the past couple of years and is most often mentioned in the media due to disturbances in the area, there are also lots of good things to explore here. One of them I s a street in the outer parts of Nørrebro, where you can buy everything from clothes, organic skin care and hand made ceramics to records, specially printed art and award winning coffee. Pavements and buildings have recently been cleaned up to make the street even more inviting and several new businesses are moving in. The name of the street is Jægersborggade. Between two oasesWith cobblestone and classical Copenhagen-buildings from the beginning of last century, Jægersborggade possesses a particular charm. The location between two of the city’s oases is also very appealing. One end of the street faces Jagtvej and the entrance to the green Assistens kirkegård, while the other reaches Stefansgade just by the Nørrebropark. The lively Nørrebrogade with frequent busses, is just around the corner too, so getting around is easy. Sustainable and organicA lot of the businesses in Jægersborggade prioritise sustainability and ecology. Amongst others there are Pers Griseri, which sells frozen organic meat from carefully selected producers, Den Grønne Ælling, with healthy take away and organic snacks, and Dakor, which imports handmade furniture directly from a workshop in Senegal, where the workers are guaranteed a fair wage and good working conditions. Coffee and ceramicsThe street is also the home of the small scaled and homemade. The taste buds will get their fill at the micro roaster and coffee bar The Coffee Collective, and if you’ve got a sweet tooth there’s no getting around a visit to Karamelleriet. At number 55 you can find Elsgaard Håndskomageri, which produces orthopaedic and handmade shoe wear and Keramiker Inge Vincents moved her ceramics studio to one of the shops down the street in the fall of 2009. Wide variety of fashionThere is a lot to choose from for those interested in fashion. The Århus-based company Moluu has a store here, and in Potz Brauleins concept store you can try out and buy the brand’s latest collection. Stokkendahl has a carefully put together selection of clothes and accessories from Danish, Swedish and Finnish designers and the vintage store Mademoistella is always worth a visit. Late Night HuntingJægersborggade is a street with soul and life, where you can find the different, the unexpected and the new. On the first Thursday of every month the stores hold “Late Night Hunting”, which means different performances with music, movies and art and opening hours extended to 21. In the summer time the street is turned into a outdoor Farmers Market each Saturday and twice a year there’s a big street party. And that’s just a small selection of everything Jægersborggade has to offer.
