Fashion store Kyoto opened in March 2008, to the delight of many fashion conscious men and women. It’s located on the infamous Istedgade, which offers everything from sex shops with private booths to small Asian greengrocers and cozy cafés. The women’s section holds such gems as Carin Wester’s cute dresses and tops. Caroline Gustavsson is the store manager and she’s responsible for the season’s assortment. She offers Nespressocoffee and has a fairly serious cold. Hi Caroline! Tell us about Kyoto?- We´re a relatively new establishment, and our style differs a bit depending on if you’re looking for women’s or men’s clothes. The women’s department offers fashion for everyone in every price category, whilst the men’s department contains more street fashion at reasonable prices. Which labels do you carry?- Whyred, Acne, Carin Wester, Baum & Pferdgarten, Gestuz, amongst others. How do you choose the labels?- I basically choose the labels I think are pretty. During this year’s fashion week I discovered the Swedish label Minimarket, and we’re going to carry that now. Why should one visit Kyoto and not one of the many other high fashion shops in Copenhagen?- First and foremost I think you should shop more in Vesterbro and not just in central Copenhagen. You miss out on a lot if you limit yourself to the ‘big’ streets. You should come to Kyoto because we’re a new store that can offer individual fashion at a good price. And we’re really nice too!
