A Day in the Park

Copenhagen has a lot of parks that suits perfectly for a picnic during nice weather.
In Frederiksberg Have which surrounds Frederiksborg Slot, you find Chinese pavilions, temples and a dripstone cave.
Bernstorffsparken is a lovely park, designed with inspiration from the romantic English landscape gardens. Here you can stroll amongst large green lawns, oak- and beeches woods and visit The Queen Louise’s Teahouse with a view over the rose garden.
Fredensborg Slot & Slotshave and Kongens Have are also popular spots for couples in the spring and summer. Fredensborg Slotshave has the largest and most well-preserved baroque gardens in Denmark with 70 sculptures to look at.
Tivoli is also worth a visit at any season. When the spring arrives, Tivoli is decorated with thousands of flowers, plants and Chinese lanterns in beautiful colors that lights up the park when it gets dark. Then you can take a walk around the lake and watch the fireworks.

Copenhagen by Bicycle

Copenhagen by Bicycle Copenhagen by Bicycle

The Copenhageners ride their bike a lot. That is also why their motto is “the best bicycle town in the world”. There are pretty good conditions for bicycling, but it may also be a bit risky, when the local traffic roars around you. Actually, you will travel faster by bicycle than with a car, bus or S-train in central Copenhagen, and there is not a hill in sight, so it doesn’t require any strong leg muscles.

Free bicycles in the city

The commune in Copenhagen has for several years offered free bicycles for the public. Every year the 1st of May, 2000 bicycles are placed out at around 125 bike stand in the city centre, for example at Rådhuset. The system works so, that you put a 20-coin in a device, borrow the bike for as long as you wish, and get the 20-coin back when you return the bike in the device.

En trip in the green

You may only take the bicycle inside the old embankments, which you can see on the little map placed in front of the bike. But there are plenty of beautiful stretches, perfect for an afternoon tour. For example, start by cycling along the lakes, stretching from Tycho Brahe Planetarium in the southern parts, to Østerbro in the north. If you want to go further you can go down to Langelinie and Den lille havfrue (=The Little Mermaid). It’s also a nice route to cross the bridge over to Christianshavn and further out on Homen, where Det Kongelige teater - Operaen (=the Opera) is. It’s green and with many beautiful little houses, and not much traffic.
Happy bicycling!
