Popular shopping streets
|
Strøget is the main shopping street, very popular amongst tourists. You take a stroll if you want to experience the inner city in a buzzing crowd of people, and see some of the famous city. Strøget stretches from Kongens Nytorv and Rådhuspladsen (= the City Hall Square) with appurtenant side streets. Here you find lots of stores such as Zara, Vero Moda and Hennes & Mauritz. A good tip is to visit the side streets with fashion stores or get an ice cream at Storkespringvandet. Near StrøgetKøbmagergade is a long street, stretching from Storkespringvandet by Højbro Plads and Illum, and all the way up to Nørreport Station. Along the street you find lots of exciting side streets, like Kronprinsensgade, where the fashion store Flying A and the famous Café Sommersko lies. If you continue, you’ll reach Rundetaarn and later on Kultorvet, also a gathering place for lots of stores. Strædet is the nick name for Kompagnistræde/ Læderstræde and the streets nearby. Strædet, still covered with cobblestone, has its special charm with many cafes and old houses. Here are also lots of little bars if you want to go out nighttime. Pisserenden – the local breathing spacePisserenden is the somewhat rude nick name for the old Latin quarters, referring to the former lack of sewerage work and sanitary. The area is situated between Nørregade and Vester Voldgade, Skt. Peders Stræde and Studiestræde, in central Copenhagen. So if you’re into second hand, new designs, cartoons, vinyl records and other obscure things, you’ll definitely appreciate this little charming neighborhood. www.pisserenden.com IstedgadeIstedgade has always been the heart of Vesterbro, with a bad reputation due to the prostitutes, drugs and its many sex shops. You can still see traces of the former “red light district”, however lately Istedgade has become a hip street, filled with trendy stores, bars and restaurants. You find lots of second hand in luxurious-vintage style and cool fashion stores with young, Danish designs. Visit Kyoto for high street fashion, Bang & Jensen for a nice hang out before you go clubbing, or Magasasa for a cheap, Chinese take away box. Nordre Frihavnsgade on ØsterbroMany say that this street is the only cool street on Østerbro, since it’s filled with lots of specialty stores, in the otherwise quite upscale and calm district. You’ll find wine shops, bicycle stores, music instruments, second hand clothes and other fashion stores. Visit Mi Gusta or Greibe og Kumari for vintage clothes from famous brands, as good as new.
