Kaabers bookshop has existed ever since Denmark was invaded by the Germans in the 1940’s. On the shelves in the basement you can browse among 40 000 titles. Not only have books on the shelves told stories there are also many associated with the shop itself. During the entire occupation were Denmark’s editorial office hidden behind the books, and that’s nothing to brag about. As many other smaller shops, Kaabers don’t have any comprehensive webpage. The founder Kaaber took part in starting up the common Scandinavian webpage, www.antikvariat.net, where you can find books that ordinary shops don’t have in their assortment. Rare first editionsThe shop has many rare books like first editions of literary stars like HC Andersen and Søren Kierkegaard. One of the shop assistants tells that since 1998 has 126606 titles been run through the system. Furthermore he tells that a book from 1586 recently was sold to Yale University. Freedom of the press in the basementKaabers bookshop at Skindergade is definitely worth a visit especially if you’re looking for rarities.
