Europe’s new Marble City
|
With its boulevards and buildings covered with marble, the capital of the U.S, Washington DC often goes under the name “Marble City”. This white architectural expression is now heading towards Europe with the planning of the new marble bridge. With a 140 m high pier and a bridge 65 m high, the Marble Bridge will make a beautiful hub, connecting Nordhavn and Langelinie with the new city district. The buildings are in a stylistically pure style, focusing on the straight lines and the bright marble. The UN will have their very own island, thus measuring up to their high demands on security, at the same time, the marble bridge will create a connection between the old and the new, the old Østerbro neighborhood will be connected to Nordhavnen’s marble pier in an easy and attractive manner. Thereby, exchanges and social interaction will be created. Free access to the dockThe marble bridge is yet another of Copenhagen’s many project to broaden the Copenhagener’s access to the sea side. It will also be easy to travel by public transportation when attending conferences. The building of the marble area is estimated to be finished around 2012. Published 2008-12-02 14:59 |
