A Day in the Park

Copenhagen has a lot of parks that suits perfectly for a picnic during nice weather.
In Frederiksberg Have which surrounds Frederiksborg Slot, you find Chinese pavilions, temples and a dripstone cave.
Bernstorffsparken is a lovely park, designed with inspiration from the romantic English landscape gardens. Here you can stroll amongst large green lawns, oak- and beeches woods and visit The Queen Louise’s Teahouse with a view over the rose garden.
Fredensborg Slot & Slotshave and Kongens Have are also popular spots for couples in the spring and summer. Fredensborg Slotshave has the largest and most well-preserved baroque gardens in Denmark with 70 sculptures to look at.
Tivoli is also worth a visit at any season. When the spring arrives, Tivoli is decorated with thousands of flowers, plants and Chinese lanterns in beautiful colors that lights up the park when it gets dark. Then you can take a walk around the lake and watch the fireworks.

Fredensborg Slot & Slotshave

The beautiful baroque castle Fredensborg Slot was built as a hunting castle for Frederik IV by the architect J.C Krieger and was inaugurated in 1722. After the death of Queen Juliane Marie in 1796, the castle was seldom used. It was first under the reign of Christian IV and Queen Louise that the castle was yet again used by the royal family during longer periods. Today, Fredensborg Slot is the Royal residency during the spring and autumn months and is often used for larger events such as wedding celebrations, birthday gatherings and official receptions of the world’s heads of states. The large castle garden is originally also designed by Krieger, but has later on been altered and redesigned in accordance with current trends. Today however, the essential features of the original garden have been recreated. In the castle garden you amongst other things find a lot of sculptures made by the most prominent sculptors in Scandinavia, J.Wiedewelt. In 1995, an orangery was built in connection to the castle’s herbal garden. Here they store delicate plants during the winter and cultivate flowers to decorate the castle.
