Operahuset

Operahuset

Copenhagen’s opera house is one of the most lavish opera houses ever built, with building costs over three billion DKK. Operahuset dominates the entrance to Copenhagen’s harbor with its 41 000 square meters and 14 floors, of which five are located under ground. The building is situated on the islet Dokøen, which you can reach either by ferry, bus or car. There is room for 1500 seats in front of the main stage and the ceiling above the auditorium is covered with 105 000 sheets of gold-leaves. The building consists of more than 1000 rooms, including several rehearsal studios. With these qualities, Copenhagen’s opera house is on the list over the most modern and appreciated opera houses in the world. The building was paid for by The A.P. Møller and Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation and was designed by the architect Henning Larsen. In January 2005 the building was inaugurated and it has gotten as much attention as the opera house in Sydney – which was also designed by a Danish architect.
