Vegetarian Guide

If there´s something missing in the state of Denmark it´s vegetarian restaurants. The Danes are steadfast regarding their food culture and are not easily persuaded to go vegetarian. Therefore there are not many vegetarian restaurants around, but you can find several restaurants with great green choices.

100% Vegetarian

The three most popular vegetarian restaurants in Copenhagen is Riz Raz, Den Gronne Kalder (The Green Cellar) and Morgenstedet. Riz Raz has an excellent buffet where the green lasagna is particularly delicious. They offer both lunch and dinner at low prices. Den Gronne Kalder in Pilestraede is organic, and the nice interior and high standard creates a pleasant atmosphere. The prizes are moderate and the food is magnificent. You can also find many well-tasting vegan courses on the menu. Morgenstedet at Christiania has been around for more than 20 years. Their concept is to be a 100% vegetarian and organic cafe and restaurant. Here you can order today´s special for approximately 70 DKK.
If you´re in a hurry or looking for something simple you should visit take-out restaurant Det Eksotiske Hjorne at Norrebro which is also suitable for vegans. Estin at Nyhavn is also a good choice but is only open for lunch.

Veggie Friendly

Besides the restaurants that offer a total vegetarian concept, there are many cafes and restaurants that offer well-prepared vegetarian courses. Café Salongen in “Pisserenden” is located in a cosy cellar; here you can order grilled sandwiches with goat cheese or mozzarella and avocado. In addition to the nice atmosphere and good sandwiches they are really inexpensive! Cap Horn, a restaurant in Nyhavn offer “Vegetardrømmen” (The Vegetarians Dream) – a salad with chickpeas, mozzarella and courgettes. Almost every ethnic restaurant has good vegetarian courses on their menu, in particular Indian restaurants always have a wide variety of spicy veggie dishes.
